Attendance & Recruitment at The Future of Community Event

CCW participated in a fantastic gathering of communitarians in Durham last weekend. The event was called The Future of Community - Intentional, Cooperative, Sustainable which featured community organizers and intentional community members from around the country. Over sixty people were in attendance. A number of workshops were held and CCW presented its forming ecovillage slide show followed by a question and answer session. Following the event in Durham the Fellowship for Intentional Communities held its biannual Board meeting at Arcadia. CCW was in attendance, participating in the discussions and sharing the dreams and challenges of community with everyone present.

Land Found - Now Recruiting Members!

Carolina Common Well seeks people with appropriate skill sets and resources to establish an agricultural-based ecovillage located west of the Research Triangle Park area. We are located approximately 10 minutes west of Chapel Hill in the Efland area. Of the over 100 acre parcel we have identified, the community will own between 20 and 30 acres with the remainder being placed in a woodland and farmland trust.

We have completed our visioning process and written our vision, mission and membership documents and begun recruitment. We envision growing a community to somewhere between 36 and 100 people. The size of the community will depend upon the carrying capacity of the land. As of this writing we are in the process of site planning using permaculture, bioharmony and other sustainable principles.

If you are interested in possibly joining our community we invite you to take some time to learn more about us. Begin by reading our Mission Statement, our Agreements, and then our Membership Process.

If after you have reviewed our founding documents, you are interested in learning more, please Contact Us.

Potluck Community Farm is an intentional community of 13 families located in Rougemont, North Carolina, about 20 miles north of Durham, North Carolina. The 13 families share 170 acres. Each has a 3 acre lot, which leaves about 130+ acres communally owned. They have a small pond, an orchard, a number of gardens (both food and flower), and an assortment of ducks, chickens, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, miniature donkeys, 1 horse, and of course, quite a few dogs and cats. About 100 acres is pretty much undisturbed except for walking trails. The land (a former tobacco farm) was purchased in 1990. They range in age from teens to 70’s, and a plan is in motion to create an “extension” community next door… 10 acres called Elderberry. This will be smaller homes and spaces to allow for aging in place. Some folks from Potluck Community Farm will join, and new members will be welcome also. [ from Tiny House Design ]

Blue Heron Farm visit

Saturday turned into a beautiful Fall weather day. We had an excellent visit with Barbara our host who told us about the history of Blue Heron Farm. We had lively discussions about intentional community and benefited from Blue Heron's experience of almost twenty years.
